About massage

Thai massage is the type of deep tissue massage. It is a sequence of techniques used, that combines acupressure of designated parts in the body with elements of passive yoga, stretching and reflexology. In Thailand it's known as 'nuat phaen boran', what means classic, ancient- style massage. It is said, the founder of Thai massage to have been Shivago Komarpaj ( Jivaka Komarabhacca), who is said to have been the Buddha's physician 500 b.c.e. In fact, the history of Thai massage is much more complex that this legend. Thai massage just like Thai medicine is a combination of influences of Indian, Chinese and Southeast Asian cultures. The art of massage practiced today has more similarities to the based on the knowledge of schools from all over Syjam, systematic order of sequences practiced in 19th century. Thais believe that nowadays Thai massage is based on theory that human body is filled with 'lom' or 'air', which is firstly inhaled into the lungs and then travels through the body along 72,000 invisible for human's eye pathways called 'sen'. Thai massage focuses on massaging those points through pressing and stretching techniques. Most of the schools follow the theoretical system stating that most of the 'sens' accumulate by navel area and spread up to lips area. Passive yoga, which is the most significant part of Thai massage, stimulates 'sens' and redirects 'lom' through the whole body, finishing the massage on the head.
